Washburn USA's finest take on Nuno's #1 yet! Introduced at NAMM 2019, the new 4N represents an exhaustingly detailed examination of Nuno's personal favorite examples of his classic signature model guitar.
While the essential specifications remain unchanged for the better part of 30 years, a multitude of small revisions and refinements over time (like any decades-old guitar model) have led to certain eras becoming favorites of true N4 connoisseurs, and indeed Nuno himself. While the N4 series remains a staple in the Washburn lineup, the new 4N is THE guitar Nuno will grab when he heads on stage for one of his legendarily explosive concerts.
Here are some of the differences:
Neck profile slightly rounded with steeper taper from 1st fret to 12th fret (.73"-.89")
Thinner ebony fingerboard
Modified SEC joint to reduce neck angle and reduce height of fingerboard from face of the body.
Original Floyd Rose tremolo sunken in the recess route to accommodate reduced neck angle
Modified shielding to improve treble response when rolling off volume knob for cleaner tones
Elimination of tremolo spring cavity cover recess to maintain 37mm tremolo block length
Re-introduction of Kahler Steeler locking nut with built-in string director, eliminating need for Floyd Rose string retainer
Modified transition blend between headstock and back of neck
Adjustable bridge pickup height
Killerburst Guitars enjoys a special relationship with Washburn and the staff at the Washburn USA custom shop. As a result we are able to commission special instruments with specs tweaked to our (and hopefully your!) personal taste. Normally, Washburn guitars use industry standard nickel silver fret wire, as has been used for the better part of a century. This 4N features Jescar 57110 Stainless Steel fret wire, for an extra smooth feel during vibrato and bends, reduced friction and wear, no oxidation or corrosion and seemingly limitless fret life. As these guitars are carefully fretted and dressed, it makes sense to ensure the frets remain as the builder intended for the life of the guitar. No more leveling, crowning or dressing. No more polishing. Just shiny, gleaming frets from day one and forever thereafter, or least pretty darn close!
In addition, this instrument features a non-distressed finish, an ultra lightweight alder body, Birdseye maple neck and fingerboard and chrome hardware.
