Here we have one of Ted's 'Standard' models. This one features a top routed body in light weight, full-sounding basswood with a contoured highly-figured quilted maple top, highlighted with masked faux-binding.
The pickups were custom wound for us, and feauture double rows of adjustable screw pole-pieces and a unique inductive circuit. The neck pickup is sweet and articulate without a hint of flub or harshness. The bridge pickup combines twang with chunky, but not overly hot. The magic really happens with the split coil positions, giving you Strat and Tele-like voicings that will have you grinning ear to ear. The sounds coming out of this guitar will delight the most discerning palates.
The neck was likewise carved to our request. Remiscent of a late '50s small V Strat neck in the shoulder, with the bottom point of the V rounded out to a smooth curve, it fits snugly in the curve of your thumb and forefinger, without feeling too slim/flat or too chunky. It fills up and rounds out to a fuller C but with a slim taper up to the heel, not making a big jump in girth as you slide up the neck. And with the 1.650" nut width, this is truly a Goldilocks neck shape.
The exquisitely figured birdseye maple fingerboard has a conical shape with a 10" radius at the nut, flattening out to 14" at the last fret. Jescar stainless steel frets measuring .051" high by .108" wide are superbly finished with a gleaming polish and seamlessly mated to the rolled fingerboard edge. "Broken-in feel" is an understatement. The oil finish offers a feel no hard finish can attain.
